Palavras

As palavras

Tanto trabalho, e vontade... apetece fugir e deixar o tempo passar, olhar o mar e sentir a paz, onde quer que ela exista...

what is war?

This is a good reflection about war!

Does it matter? - losing your legs?...
For people will always be kind,
And you need not show that you mind
When the others come in after hunting
To gobble their muffins and eggs.

Does it matter? - losing your sight?...
There's such splendid work for the blind;
And people will always be kind,
As you sit on the terrace remembering
And turning your face to the light.

Do they matter? - those dreams from the pit?...
You can drink and forget and be glad,
And people won't say that you're mad;
For they'll know you've fought for your country
And no one will worry a bit.

Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray, 1891

How am I going to be?

Just to reflect !

These are Brian Orend's questions on the matters of war, I see them as an onset to reflection: "War's violent nature, and controversial social effects, raise troubling moral questions for any thoughtful person. Is war always wrong? Might there be situations when it can be a justified, or even a smart, thing to do? Will war always be part of human experience, or can we do something to make it disappear? Is war an outcome of unchangeable human nature or, rather, of changeable social practice? Is there a fair and sensible way to wage war, or is it all hopeless, barbaric slaughter? When wars end, how should post-war reconstruction proceed, and who should be in charge? What are our rights, and responsibilities, when our own society makes the move to go to war?"

T S Eliot 's Burnt Norton

I hope you follow me in this "flow" over time!
"Time present and time past
Are both perhaps present in time future
And time future contained in time past.
If all time is eternally present
All time is unredeemable.
What might have been is an abstraction
Remaining a perpetual possibility
Only in a world of speculation.
What might have been and what has been
Point to one end, which is always present.
Footfalls echo in the memory
Down the passage which we did not take
Towards the door we never opened
Into the rose-garden. My words echo
Thus, in your mind.

War

Everyone asks me why I chose to work on this subject-WAR. And my answer is always the same, man has survived fighting for something, we all go through our lives fighting our own wars. We are humans, war has been side by side with us throughout our history.
Nowadays life everywhere we know it has a war being fought, why? Because men believe in something and keep on making wars, keep on thinking they are right and a war is needed!

I have to start time flies!

WAR

Nowdays whenever we turn on the TV, we have news about conflicts everywhere, people are getting depressed, no one tries to calm down!! Everything seems so distant but at the same time so close, our children question us about what is happening, why people keep on fighting, killing each other and we don't have a real answer, I keep on saying it is a part of the human being that we should try to leave back, but that has been with us since ever. The art of war has been "enriched" with technology, but men's attitudes haven't changed.

dreamer

I always see myself as a dreamer, and I have to keep on dreaming to be alive. Everything seems to run away from me, even the books... the more I read the more I want to read, this is the best!
I have to think upon things as challenges, and I have to keep on fighting for my dreams!

Thanks Mr Bradbury

I've been rereading some of Bradbury's short stories and everytime I read them I discover a new detail, a new hint for the future!
This picture is my favourite!

From the Fog Horn

Quoting.
"One day many years ago a man walked along and stood in the sound
of the ocean on a cold sunless shore and said, ‘We need a voice that
is like to call across the water, to warn ships; I’ll make one. I’ll make
a voice like all of time and all of the fog that ever was; I’ll make a
voice that is like an empty bed beside you all night long, and like an
empty house when you open the door, and like trees in autumn with
no leaves. A sound like November wind and the sea on the hard, cold
shore. I’ll make a sound that’s so alone that no one can miss it. That
whoever hears it will weep in their souls, and hearths will seem
warmer, and being inside will seem better to all who hear it in the
distant towns. I’ll make me a sound and an apparatus and they’ll
call it a Fog Horn and whoever hears it will know the sadness of
eternity and the brightness of life.”

A poetic explanation for the existance of fog horns!

Ray Bradbury

I keep on writing about him because whenever I read his opinions on man and life hope invades my space and I also start believing in a better world!

Man and God!

As Ray Bradbury puts it "Man is a fusion of the human and divine. I believe that the flesh of man contains the very soul of God, that we are, finally, irrevocably and responsibly, God Himself incarnate, that we shall carry this seed of God into space."
These words from 1972, in an interview to William F. Nolan, Bradbury talks about man and God and his relation to religion! Even in these matters he keeps his hope for a better world exploring space.

Bradbury , as always!

"(...)the cleansing process, the therapeutic process that should be going on between the writer and his typewriter, or his pen and ink, is cut across, then by this commercial function. And he begins to lie. and as soon as he begins to lie in his work, it becomes noncreative, nontherapeutic to himself, and nontherapeutic to anyone that reads him"
these words from Ray Bradbury have always inspired and guided me in my studies. I don't really see myself as a writer, because I only write academic works, but when I am doing them I have to feel what I am writing, I have to sence that my message is going to make others think, to give them new ways to follow.
Being a techer I have found in Bradbury my source of inspiration. He really believes in people and in their goodness, and he also believes that the future is out there for us to find together with new worlds.
Whenever I feel down his words and his faith in the human being pull me up.
Thank you Ray!

De regresso

Aqui estou!
